Mission
CEESMENA’s mission is to provide the highest quality economic research and analysis for local MENA decision makers, as they chart the course for their countries’ development. We do not make policy recommendations. Rather, our research looks beyond isolated, short-term economic issues and stop-gap solutions, to provide full information models for local authorities who are seeking to understand and direct their economy’s long run general equilibrium.
As a first step to carry out this mission, CEESMENA has begun work on The World Scientific Reference Series on the Economics of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). This series expands on the issues outlined in Joseph Pelzman’s 2018 textbook, The Economics of the Middle East and North Africa, which pointed out the critical need for an authoritative series of reference materials dealing with the persistent economic issues impacting the MENA region.

The World Scientific Reference Series on the Economics of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will:
EXPLORE new applications of technology, and utilize - in the context of a professional, disciplined research environment - available technologies such as dynamic digital twin modeling, artificial intelligence, multi-media platforms, and open-source intelligence labs.
STUDY space industry and commercialization: The space industry requires significant financial and human resources. Economic analysis helps decision-makers allocate resources effectively and make the best-informed decisions on investments in the space industry. This will include market analysis (study of demand for space-related products/services), cost-benefit analysis (projects worth pursuing and which ones could be deferred/canceled), and guidance on regulatory policies (effects of different regulatory policies on the development and growth of the space industry.)
PROMOTE regional cooperation: A modern institute of excellence in economic studies for the MENA region will demonstrate a commitment to regional cooperation and collaboration, building confidence and capacity between countries while fostering stability in the region.
SHARE expertise: Each participant involved in this effort brings their own unique strengths and expertise to the table. By working together, we will leverage knowledge and resources to create a world-class institute of economic studies.
BUILD relationships: Create a world-class team of researchers collaborating and building relationships to foster understanding and high-impact results.
ENHANCE economic integration: Play a key role in promoting economic integration by identifying best-in-class trade and investment opportunities, and economic interactions that boost growth, development, and synergies.
